Die norwegische Craft-Bier-Brauerei Lervig (aus Stavanger) ist bekannt für ihre kreativen und handwerklich erstklassigen Biere. Ein absoluter Klassiker in ihrem Sortiment ist das Orange Velvet, ihr bekanntestes Milkshake IPA.
Ein Milkshake IPA ist eine moderne Variante des India Pale Ale, bei der Laktose (Milchzucker) mitgebraut wird. Da Hefe Laktose nicht vergären kann, bleibt eine feine Restsüße und ein besonders cremiges, vollmundiges Mundgefühl zurück – eben wie bei einem Milchshake.
Das Geschmacksprofil:
Lervig kombiniert bei diesem Bier die typische tropische Hopfenbombe eines New England IPA (NEIPA) mit cremigen und fruchtigen Noten:
Optik: Kräftig getrübt, strohgelb bis orange mit einer stabilen, feinporigen Schaumkrone.
Aroma: Schon beim Einschenken strömen einem intensive Noten von reifer Orange, Mandarine, Mango und ein Hauch von Vanille entgegen.
Geschmack: Auf der Zunge zeigt sich die Magie des Stils. Es schmeckt extrem fruchtig, fast wie ein cremiges Orangeneis (Solero lässt grüßen). Die Süße der Laktose wird durch eine massive Ladung an Hopfen (Double Dry Hopped / DDH) perfekt ausbalanciert.
Bittere: Sehr dezent. Im Vergleich zu klassischen West Coast IPAs steht hier die Frucht und Cremigkeit im Vordergrund, nicht die herbe Bittere.
